Laundry booster and essential oil tips

Lavender and citrus oils like orange, citrus bliss, bergamot, grapefruit, lemon or lime work very well with laundry because of their ability to help fight grease, stains and odor.

My favorite is:
12 drops Grapefruit
12 drops Bergamot

Simply add 12-15 drops of your favorite essential oil to the your unscented liquid detergent. Mix well, and then add to your wash as you normally would. For softening fabrics, add 6 drops to 1 cup of white vinegar and use as a liquid fabric softener during your wash cycle.

If you want to try and make your own here is a Natural Washing Detergent Recipe:

2 teaspoons lavender essential oil
1 teaspoon lemon essential oil
1 teaspoon grapefruit essential oil
8 cups baking soda
6 cups soda ash (sodium carbonate or washing soda)
4 cups of grated Castile soap (about 3 to 4 bars)

Directions: Use a wire whisk to fully blend essential oils and baking soda, then whisk in the other ingredients until well combined. Use 1/8 cup for a regular-sized load.

In the dryer, you can add essential oils to wool dryer balls or a washcloth to lightly scent your clothes and linens. Essential oils dissipate quickly when heated, so if you want a more powerful aroma, make the addition toward the end of the cycle. Or use the air-dry option to remove heat from the process entirely. (Do not add the oils directly to your fabrics, as they can potentially cause damage.)

10 Must-Try Essential Oil Recipes for your Diffuser

The following blends are meant to be used in a ultrasonic diffuser. The type of diffusers I use require a small amount of water to which the oils are added. I generally use 4-6 drops of oil per “batch.” If you don’t have one of the components, you can still try the recipe without it.

EO= Essential Oil
If you would like to purchase the Ultrasonic diffuser in the picture,
kindly email us to place your order.
1) Room diffuser (3 hours) = RM199
2) USB/Car/Notebook diffuser (2 hours) = RM160

1. The Wake Up Blend
This is a much-loved combo, and for good reason! It’s perfect to increase alertness, or when you need a quick pick-me-up.
2 drops Wild Orange EO or 2 drops of Lemon EO + 2 drops Peppermint EO
Or try: doTERRA’s Elevation blend
2. Fresh and Clean
This blend is wonderful for creating a welcoming atmosphere in your home. It’s bright and fresh:
2 drops Lavender EO + 2 drops Lemon EO or 2 drops of Lime EO + 2 drops Rosemary EO
3. Odor Eliminator
We are animal-people, and we’ve had our fair share of *cough* “incidences” in our house. Whenever this happens, I like to diffuse this blend. It freshens up the air in no time:
2 drops Lemon EO + 1 drop Melaleuca EO + 1 drop Lime EO + 1 drop White Fir EO + 1 drop of Cilantro EO
Or try: doTERRA’s Purify blend
4. Seasonal Support
These three oils together are spectacular for helping to maintain clear breathing and a healthy immune response. I use this blend especially during the spring and summer months.
2 drops Lavender EO + 2 drops Lemon EO + 2 drops Peppermint EO
5. Citrus Explosion
I love diffusing citrus blends when we have company coming over. It makes my house smell happy and clean.
1 drop Lemon EO + 1 drop Lime EO + 1 drop Wild Orange EO + 1 drop Grapefruit EO + 1 drop Bergamot EO
Or try: doTERRA’s Citrus Bliss blend
6. Take a Deep Breath Blend
I tend to be a very high-energy person. The good part of that? I get a lot done. The bad part?I have a hard time settling down sometimes…
I adore this blend for the evenings when I’m trying to slow my brain down, and I also like to diffuse it in the bedroom as I fall asleep:
1 drop Bergamot EO + 1 drop Lavender EO + 1 drop Patchouli EO + 1 drop Ylang Ylang EO
Or try: doTERRA’s Serenity blend
7. Respiratory Blend
Use this blend to boost respiratory function–especially during cold and flu season.
1 drop Lemon EO + 1 drop Lime EO + 1 drop Peppermint EO + 1 drop Rosemary EO + 1 drop Eucalyptus EO
Or try: doTERRA’s Breathe blend
8. Flower Garden Blend
Want your home to smell like a flower garden in full bloom? Try this one:
1 drop Clary Sage EO + 1 drop Geranium EO + 1 drop Lavender EO + 1 drop Roman Chamomile EO
9. The Man-Cave Blend
I think this combo smells very masculine and woodsy… Although I enjoy it too.
2 drops White Fir EO + 2 drops Cypress EO + 2 drops Wintergreen EO
10. Bug Repellent Blend
This combo isn’t one that I’d necessarily wear as perfume, but it contains a collection of oils that most creepy-crawlies dislike:
1 drop Lemongrass EO + 1 drop Melaleuca EO + 1 drop Thyme EO + 1 drop Eucalyptus EO + 1 drop Rosemary EO
Or try: doTERRA’s Terrashield blend

How do I determine the appropriate dose of an essential oil?

When determining the appropriate dose of essential oil , there are two important factors to consider—the amount of oil to use and the frequency of application.
Essential oils are very potent so using a small amount will go a long way. Individual factors such as age, size, weight, and overall health status influence the amount of oil needed. Typically, it is best to start with a low amount and increase the dose as necessary to achieve the desired benefit.
Consistency of application has been scientifically validated to be the most beneficial way to apply essential oils. Using essential oils on a daily basis is an excellent way to practice preventative healthcare. When treating a specific condition, it is typically most beneficial to use smaller doses throughout the day rather than a single large dose.
What is dilution and when should I dilute an essential oil?
Dilution is the process by which an essential oil is mixed with a carrier oil. Although dilution does decrease the oil’s potency, there are also many benefits to using dilution including enhancing absorption, slowing the rate of evaporation, and preventing sensitivities. Some common varieties of carrier oils include: fractionated coconut oil, unscented lotion, jojoba oil, grape seed oil, aloe vera gel, and almond oil. If applied undiluted, some essential oils, especially those with more potent chemistry, can cause irritation to young or sensitive skin.

Testimonial - Baby skin problem

Testimonial from our customer - Lily (Johor Bahru, Malaysia)

My baby has severe skin problem ever since he was 1 month old. It started with redness here and there on the face and body which looks like heat rashes. However, it got worse day after day. It was so bad and itchy till I found that lavender + melaleuca + fractionated coconut oil didn't work for him anymore. The rashes flared out till whole face started to have pus coming out from the sores and wounds. My baby kept scratching (though we let him wears mitten) till I have to tie him up using the cloth.
After getting the advice from doTERRA Malaysia, I started to clean up his sores/wounds/red patches with cotton pads + a small container of water + lavender + onguard. Then I use the mixed oil blend below on him.

The oil blends recipe:
5 drops frankincense
5 drops melaleuca
5 drops geranium
5 drops roman chamomile
5 drops lavender
5 drops onguard
3 drops helichrysum
3 drops myrrh
The rest fill up with FCO.
Total 10ml in roller bottle.

After 2 days of application, the condition is significantly improving. My family and I are so happy and feel very relief to witness the good result. I will continue to apply the essential oils on him.

Insomnia

Insomnia describes a number of unusual sleep patterns that do not allow a person to get the rest needed to function at properly during their waking hours.  This can result from not being able to go to sleep, not being able to stay asleep, or not being able to rest well while asleep.  If any of these conditions occurs for a number of weeks this chronic condition becomes a serious health concern.

Insomnia can be a primary condition or it can be a symptom of some underlying condition. Anxiety, alcohol, caffeine, stress are common primary causes of insomnia.  Secondary insomnia can come from physical or psychological factors such as depression, indigestion, restless leg syndrome, or a chronic pain condition.

Essential oils are a blessing to those who suffer from not being able to sleep. The sedative and relaxing properties of so many oils provide a wide range of choices. Lavender is very highly recommended to improve this problem. Clary sage, frankincense, marjoram, orange, rosemary, ylang ylang, or blends like Balance, Serenity will also have very good relaxing or sedative properties.

Symptoms of Insomnia:
- difficulty falling asleep
- interrupted sleep
- waking up early
- light sleep
- poor quality of sleep ~ not refreshed after sleeping

Oils, blends & products recommended:

Oils & Blends:  clary sage, frankincense, lavender, marjoram, rosemary, Serenity, wild orange, ylang ylang

Many have found this simple solution effective:
-  1-3 drops of clary sage under the tongue at bedtime
A key to insomnia is finding the best oils or blends and the best personal application technique. Experiment with different oils/blends and with one or more of the following application techniques:
•  Baths and body or foot massage
 •  Diffuse a blend or single oil in the bedroom or use an inhaler or cup and inhale technique at bed time
 •  Make a 5% water spritz and spray on the pillow with lavender or other oil
 •  For children, a foot massage just prior to bedtime using a Serenity, lavender, or a lemon/lavender/carrier blend.
This will be very relaxing and will often help them sleep deeper and awake more refreshed. It can also be a very good bonding time between parents and children.
*AromaTouch Technique is recommended

Note: Some folks become “used to” one oil or technique after a period of time and have to rotate to another for continued results.

Ask Dr.Hill

dōTERRA’s Medical Expert, Dr. David K. Hill, answers questions about seasonal discomfort, essential oil safety, and cleaning with essential oil.

Tri Ease Seasonal BlendQuestion: How can I alleviate seasonal discomfort with essential oils?
The new dōTERRA TriEase™ Softgels contain equal parts of Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint essential oils, known for their ability to support clear breathing and a healthy inflammatory response when combined together.

A drop of these oils can also be applied topically under the nose or diffused. Throughout my personal and professional experience, I’ve witnessed great success from this combination.

In addition, supporting the digestive tract can ease discomfort during seasonal changes. PB Assist+ helps create an environment of friendly microflora in the gut that can both protect against seasonal and environmental elements and support acquired immunities.

Question: What is the safest and most beneficial way to use essential oils on children?
Among the greatest attributes of essential oils is that their safety and benefits extend to all members of the family—no one is excluded, even young children and infants. Because of their potency, you will find that essential oils are capable of offering immediate benefits and relief to your child.

For the same reason, a very low dose is all that is needed to induce powerful therapeutic effects. Topical application is perhaps the most controlled method for administering essential oils to children because it allows for treatment of targeted concerns.

Some oils can be sensitive to the skin and should be diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil before applying topically. Another effective mode of administration is diffusion, which is simple to integrate into your family’s health regimen.

Consistent use of essential oils is a safe yet effective method for your family’s health.

Question: Are essential oils effective cleaning agents? Which oils would you recommend?
Cleaning with Essential OilsEssential oils have complex chemistries that give them diverse benefits. Many essential oils have powerful cleansing properties. They are highly effective yet nontoxic, making them ideal cleaning agents.

There are many ways essential oils that can be integrated into your regular cleaning routine—use oils to clean kitchen counters, bathrooms, and other surfaces; diffuse the oils to purify the air; or use oils to cut grease and other tough stains.

Citrus oils tend to be excellent cleaning agents and stain removers because of their high monoterpene content. I would also recommend Oregano, Purify Cleansing Blend, or any of the dōTERRA On Guard products to add to your everyday cleaning routine.

40 Uses of Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint and Melaleuca

General Essential Oils Precautions

All of the cautions and precautions below are from Dr. Susan Lawton.

General Essential Oil Precautions

EYE CONTACT

If some of the oil gets in your eye or irritates the skin, DO NOT USE WATER to flush it out because it will drive it in deeper. Use coconut oil, olive oil, cooking oil or milk to sooth and wipe outward from the eye to disperse.

ALLERGIES

If you know you have an allergic reaction to something like grapefruit or cinnamon or anything in your normal life, remember that these oils are different and generally will not cause an allergic response, but it’s a good idea to avoid the specific oil for common sense reasons or at least try a drop on your elbow to see if you have a response before using it elsewhere.

OVER USE

There are a few oils that may be more effective if used sparingly over time. They may become less effective if used to many days in a row without a rest. See Oregano, OnGuard and Zendocrine.

As you go through and learn about the oils in the ‘Oils’ menu in ‘Educate Yourself ‘ to gain a deeper knowledge about each oil.

CAUTION FOR ALL CITRUS OILS

Caution: Avoid direct sunlight for up to 12 hours after use on skin.

TAKE A MENTAL NOTE OF THE HOT OILS FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

INDIVIDUAL OIL PRECAUTIONS

BASIL

Caution: Avoid during pregnancy, not for use for people with Epilepsy and may irritate sensitive skin (dilute with coconut oil).

CASSIA

Caution: HOT, HOT, HOT. Skin sensitivity due to high aldehyde content; needs to be diluted 1:4 coconut oil. May irritate (feel like on fire) nasal passages if inhale directly from bottle.

LIME

Precaution: Lime can inspire photosensitivity, so if used topically on the skin the area should not be exposed to sunlight or ultraviolet light for 12 hours to avoid severe burning.

LEMONGRASS

Caution: This oil can feel very warm on the skin; always dilute for sensitive skin.

GRAPEFRUIT

There are normally some cautions with medications and the use of grapefruit, but not grapefruit oil. They are different constituents since the oil is taken from the rind rather than the meat, or flesh of the fruit. This is a photosynthetic essential oil…. stay out of the sun for 12-hrs for “sun-kissed” skin areas.

WILD ORANGE

Caution:Avoid direct sunlight for up to 12 hours after use on skin.

CLOVE

Caution: use with caution during pregnancy and in about 5% of the population when applied topically may provoke skin sensitivity…better to use internally.

CLARY SAGE and CLARYCALM (previously Solace)

Caution: During pregnancy use Clary Sage at the beginning of labor or after delivery only please!! Never mix with drinking alcohol!!!!

CORIANDER

Caution: A LITTLE goes a long way… Coriander can be overwhelming if used too much at one time.

FENNEL

Caution: Best used after pregnancy is completed and avoid if seizure disorders have happened!

GINGER

Caution: do not use undiluted if you have very sensitive skin.

LEMONGRASS

Caution: This oil can feel very warm on the skin; always dilute for sensitive skin.

MARJORAM

Precautions: Marjoram oil gives you greater control over sexual desire, but long term use can permanently numb erotic sensations, diminish sex drive, and decrease sexual function. (daily for weeks too much – rotate with other oils).
Marjoram oil can cause drowsiness, so you should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery when using it a lot.

MELISSA (lemon balm)

Precaution: If very sensitive skin dilute even more and always use it in small amounts—no more than 1 percent.

OREGANO

Caution: Oregano can cause skin irritation or a very hot sensation – dilute 1:3 and follow up with Lavender or additional fractionated coconut oil. If a pregnant woman has not used essential oils previously, remember that Oregano can simulate menstruation, so use with great caution.

Use for two weeks maximum. The oil is very powerful and yet can be weakened by overuse in its application. The body needs a rest from this oil.

PAST TENSE

Caution: Possible Skin Sensitivity. Keep out of reach of children. Keep out of eyes. Do not put in to nose or ears or other sensitive openings of the body. Dilute with Fractionated Coconut Oil to calm any sensitive skin. The oils in this blend are 100% Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. If Pregnant or under a doctors’ care for any reason consult a physician on usage.

PEPPERMINT

ROMAN CAMMOMILE

Caution: Avoid during Pregnancy until Labor begins then it will help!!

ROSEMARY

Caution: During pregnancy, have high blood pressure or epilepsy – use very little on a regular basis; use only with lots of extra water to carry away unwanted toxins. (like in homoeopathy, a substance which, in large amounts, would provoke a symptom, can be used in tiny amounts to treat it).

TERRASHIELD

Caution: Do not use in Eyes, Ears or Mouth; Do Not use over Cuts, Wounds or Irritated skin!! Recommended for External Use Only!!!

THYME

Caution: Avoid during pregnancy, always dilute for sensitive skin (1:4), children under 35 pounds dilute (1:5); use with caution if high blood pressure diagnosed: very warm oil!!

WINTERGREEN

Caution: Use other oils for pain in bones during pregnancy, only takes a little – give it four minutes. Dilute 1:4 coconut oil if subject to epileptic seizures. Can be used as an alternative for Birch.
