Natural Treatment for ADD/ADHD

Using Essential Oils to Treat ADHD/ADD

Avoid the side effects and enjoy better results!
ADHD is a problem with inattentiveness, over-activity, impulsivity, or a combination.
Rub 3-4 drops of Vetiver Oil, Patchouli Oil or Serenity Blend on bottoms of feet and on spine area
Most recently, parents have found it highly effective in treating ADD or ADHD as an alternative to Ritalin and other prescription medications.

Recently, Dr. Terry Friedman MD, did a 2 year study of children between the ages of 6-12 years old, trying to identify essential oils useful in the treatment of ADD/ADHD. Vetiver Oil was shown to be highly successful with a 100% of the subjects over a 30 day period when the children felt “scatter brained”. Dr Friedman used the inhalation method.

Typical Applications
Apply 3-4 drops of vetiver to a child’s back or the bottom of their feet immediately following a shower and prior to bed time. For additional benefits, try also using the synergistic combination of lavender, sweet marjoram, roman chamomile, ylang ylang, sandalwood and vanilla bean in doTERRA's Serenity Blend. It is highly effective in helping to create a sense of calm, peace and helps relax both children and adults.
Application has also historically proven helpful through the olfactory system (inhalation). Prepare a tissue cup or inhaler to be used when anxiety or other symptoms of ADD/ADHD are felt.

Additional Help:
Use Life Long Vitality Pack Vitamins daily
Diffuse Frankincense Oil or Balance Oil Blend into the air; or put a drop or two on wrist & inhale.
Apply Serenity Oil Blend to wrists and bottoms of feet to calm and soothe your child.

Standard medical treatments can result in side effects such as: restlessness or tremor; anxiety or nervousness; headache or dizziness; insomnia; diarrhea or constipation; stomach pain; increased blood pressure; psychosis (abnormal thinking or hallucinations); cardiac arrhythmia; mood swings are the most common side effects.
Its well worth trying a natural, organic, essential oil treatment first- along with the behavior therapy listed below-before having to resort to  medications that can cause such drastic side effects.
BEHAVIOR THERAPY
Both before and after a child is diagnosed, there is stress on the family. Families can experience blame, anger, and frustration. Talk therapy for both the child and family can help everyone overcome these feelings and move forward.
Parents should use a system of rewards and consequences to help guide their child’s behavior. It is important to learn to handle disruptive behaviors. Support groups can help you connect with others who have similar problems.
Other tips to help your child with ADHD include:
  • Communicate regularly with the child’s teacher.
  • Keep a consistent daily schedule, including regular times for homework, meals, and outdoor activities.
  • Make changes to the schedule in advance and not at the last moment.
  • Limit distractions in the child’s environment.
  • Make sure the child gets a healthy, varied diet, with plenty of fiber and basic nutrients. (fresh fruits & veggies -avoid white flour)
  • Make sure the child gets enough sleep.
  • Praise and reward good behavior.
  • Provide clear and consistent rules for the child.
